It’s important to me to get away.
During the haze of daily life — email, texts, social media, push alert headlines — it’s easy for me to become disoriented without even realizing it.
It doesn’t help that literally every single communication platform mentioned above is optimized to tap peoples’ angst, insecurities, obsessions and triggers in exchange for engagement, the grist of the attention economy’s money mill.
The more sophisticated these seekers-and-destroyers of attention spans get, the more important it is to me to be intentional about opting out as much as my life circumstance allows.
In the past 24 hours I’ve done two things in support of this effort.
The first was to return to making posts on my Pixelfed account. I’m not here to sell anyone on any form online platform, but I can say I enjoy having another place to share photos and see photos that’s ad and algorithm free.
The second was to stick to my commitment to take myself and the spouse up the coast to Bodega Bay. We put the SUP on the water, had a picnic on the tailgate of the truck and hiked around the headlands.
Didn’t see any whales but plenty of cranes, herons, pelicans, cormorants, seals and seaweed.
Worth it. Selection of pix from the day below.
As for me, gotta go back to the grind to earn the gas and sandwich money for the next trip.
Peace.
